As we near the close of the year, we’ve been reflecting on all that we’ve achieved together.
As of spring 2025, the Unity North Neighbourhood was fully occupied, and we were honoured to welcome many wonderful new members into the co-op. The Grand Opening Event for Unity North Neighbourhood was held on Friday, October 24, celebrating the collective efforts that brought Unity North Neighbourhood to life through member-led decisions, financial investment from our development reserve, and the dedication of volunteers and staff.
In the summer, the first residents of the Heritage Hall development joined membership, and members began moving into the Barton School development.
While staying rooted in our local community, we also took part in the broader co-op movement. We were proud that Five Directors and three Members represented Compass NS at the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada’s Annual General Meeting & Conference. By participating in a panel about our journey through amalgamation, we helped shine a national spotlight on our co-op’s growth and resilience. During the CHF Canada Atlantic Summit this fall, our entire Board attended the Summit and used the opportunity for some in-person planning.
Looking ahead, our 2025/26 annual plan focuses on the priorities of increasing community presence, deepening member engagement, and fostering growth and celebration.
The co-op obtained an additional $1 million in grant funding through the Community Housing Infrastructure and Repair Program (CHIRP) to support necessary repairs at Gimmie Shelter and New Armdale Westside Neighbourhoods. This is a fully forgivable grant administered through the provincial government. This grant will support our vision of being the housing of choice for Nova Scotians who want strong governance and credible management in a thriving co-op community.
We’re finishing 2025 in a strong position, full of appreciation for our community, and looking forward to 2026. We hope that the end of the year offers you an opportunity for rest, reflection, and time with loved ones, and we can’t wait to see what 2026 will hold.
